Car Insurance Mercury (Car Insurance). The piston has a hole in it?The piston has a hole in it? Its a 1955 Ford 600 tracter I noticed it had alot of blow by in the cranckcase it kept blowing out the the valve cover gasket. But it actually ran good besides that so I decided i was going to find out what was going on so I tore the motor down and the first thing I noticed was a hole the size of a pencil in the #3 piston the #2 ,#1 piston had real deep pits in it but the #4 piston looked fine. Im assuming it could be a timing issue but we have had this tracter for 27 years and it didnt happen overnite. I have also consider sense years ago they used lead based gasoline that maybe since we never used a lead additive that maybe this might be the cause What do you think???? Thanks for your answers!!!!! Could be all of the above. Timing too advanced can cause detonation which over time could wreck the pistons, using lower octane fuel (leaded was usually higher octane) could cause detonation as well. the air fuel ratio coult me messed up and the sprk plugs could also be putting out to much spark Time for a complete rebuild with 4 New Alloyed Pistons, New Timing Chain & Gears + Sodium Valves to Handle the Extra heat Timing being off can do this over time, and you are also on the right path about the lead gasoline, since that engine requires it you should have been using the lead additive and this may have been prevented. Now you need a rebuild with components like alloy or forged pistons and higher strength alloy valves I think they are known as sodium valves, for higher temps, of unleaded gas. I understand that lead in the fuel served as a cushion for the valves. Without the lead, your valves would pound their seats to bits. I too would assume there was a timing issue. But maybe if there were more deposits in #3 and less in #4, these deposits built up and raised the compression until it finally burned a hole in #3. Some one may have put the wrong reach plug into the engine. Auto parts : Oil Pressure Switch Acura 1995 . Oil Pump Primer Alfa Romeo 1996 . Push Rod Length Checker Audi 1997 . Mercury . How to Replace a 2003 Nissan Sentra ThermostatThe 2003 Nissan Sentra is a sporty midsized sedan. However, since it was manufactured in 2003, it's very possible that basic maintenance repairs need to be completed to prevent engine failure down the road. Corrosion within the cooling system of an engine can cause failure to the thermostat. If the thermostat corrodes and fails, it can cause the engine to overheat. This can lead to thousands of dollars in repairs. However, with a quick change of the thermostat, you can ensure your 2003 Nissan Sentra stays on the road for years to come. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need 2003 Nissan Sentra thermostat PVC gasket maker Adjustable wrench Step by Step : 1 Find the thermostat cover by locating the radiator hose that extends from the top of the radiator. Follow that hose until you get to the end that connects to the engine. The piece of metal it is connected to is the cover that protects the Sentra's thermostat. 2 Remove the radiator hose from the cover by loosening the clamp that holds it to the cover by using an adjustable wrench. Slide the clamp down the radiator hose so it doesn't get lost. 3 Remove the cover from the engine by loosening the two bolts that hold it in place with an adjustable wrench. Remove the cover by lifting it off the Nissan engine. 4 Pull the thermostat out of the engine. It is not bolted into place. Remove the thermostat gasket from the engine. You may need a scraper or a razor blade to work the gasket loose. 5 Place the new thermostat into the engine by setting it on the recessed lip located inside the hole. The correct end should be placed into the hole to ensure the engine heats properly. 6 Add a small amount of PVC gasket maker to the bottom of the thermostat cover. A moderate amount should be used to completely coat the bottom of the cover. Allow the PVC to dry for 10 to 15 minutes and then place the cover onto the Nissan engine and bolt the cover back into place. 7 Place the radiator hose back onto the cover and tighten the clamp into place with the adjustable wrench. Your 2003 Nissan Sentra is now ready to use again.
Mercury . How to Replace the Thermostat in a 2003 Chevy ImpalaThe thermostat is a little device that helps keep your engine at optimal operating temperature. Located near the top of the Impala's engine block, the thermostat is essentially a heat-activated valve that opens and closes as needed to let coolant from the radiator flow into the engine and keep it at the proper temperature. Like all car parts, a thermostat will not last forever, and will need to be replaced periodically, a not difficult or particularly expensive process. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Ratchet and socket set Flat-bladed screwdriver Clean container Scraper tool or razor blade Thermostat gasket Gasket sealant Replacement thermostatSuggest EditsItem AddWhy is it necessary?Done Step by Step : 1 Find the thermostat housing. Follow the largest hose at the top of the Impala's radiator to where to it connects to a removable housing at the top of the engine block. The thermostat is located underneath this housing. 2 Loosen the clamps on the coolant hose attached to the thermostat housing. Use your flat-bladed screwdriver. Place your clean container under the hose to catch any coolant that leaks out, then remove the hose from the thermostat housing. 3 Allow the coolant to drain into the container, then set it to the side. You will pour this coolant back into the radiator at the end of this process. 4 Loosen the bolts securing the thermostat housing to the engine block with your ratchet and sockets. Then remove the housing to expose the thermostat. 5 Remove and discard the thermostat. But first note how the thermostat is oriented in its setting, as you will need to install the new thermostat in the exact same manner. 6 Remove any remnants of the old thermostat gasket from the Impala's engine block and the thermostat housing. Use a razor blade or scraper tool to do this. It is important for both surfaces to be as clean as possible to ensure that no coolant will leak around the new seal. 7 Apply a layer of gasket sealant to the bottom of the Impala's thermostat housing. Press the new thermostat gasket firmly against the sealant so that it sticks in place. Place the housing to the side so that the gasket and sealant are facing up. 8 Install the new thermostat into the setting, making sure it is oriented as you noted in Step 5. 9 Replace the thermostat housing over the new thermostat and tighten the bolts down firmly with your ratchet and socket. Connect the Impala's coolant hose back to the thermostat housing and tighten down the clamp with your flat-bladed screwdriver. Refill the radiator with the coolant you allowed to drain out in Step 3. The Impala's new thermostat is now ready for operation. *your car. Exhaust gases from the burnt fuel/air mixture that was ignited in the cylinders pass through exhaust pipes to the tailpipe at the rear of the vehicle (these gases contain carbon monoxide, which is poisonous). On the way, antismog pollution-control devices remove some of the harmful sub stances. A muffler controls the noise of the escaping gases; if it fails, you can get a ticket, probably for disturbing the peace! There is little you can do to maintain or repair this system except to have the tailpipe or muffler replaced if it breaks or wears out. You'll hear about its parts again as you wend your way through the book. Figure 4-11: 252

The wheel has either a disc brake or a drum brake. To keep it simple, I'll just look at disc brakes here. (Drum brakes work on the same general principles; see Chapter 10.) A disc brake is composed of a flat steel disc (surprise!) sandwiched between a pair of calipers, as shown in Figure 4-13. These calipers contain one or more little pistons that are forced into the disc by the brake fluid. Part II: What Makes It Go?. Figure 4-13: Atypical disc brake. 5. Brake pads located between the disc and the pistons grab the disc with their rough asbestos surfaces and force the disc to stop turning. This forces the wheel to stop turning. When the wheels stop turning, the car comes to a stop. 6. Mercury . Why your car take of with a lil jerk?
